Weed Prevention and Control
While following a properly timed fertilizer schedule can provide a thick and lush lawn, weeds can still become problematic. It is recommended that an application of a wide spectrum broad-leaf herbicide be applied to control current growing weeds and prevent future weeds from germinating.
Typical weeds that are controlled by standard application of herbicide are dandelions, clover, chickweed, thistle, and other broad-leaf weeds. If you are having issues with non-broad-leaf weeds, there are herbicides designed to control and kill them, we would just need to identify the weed prior to application to ensure optimum results.
Lawn Mowing and Maintaining Your Turf
Weekly mowing will usually provide you with the best results for turf; however, if your grass grows quickly you should mow as needed. A good rule of thumb is to follow the 1/3 rule of mowing, which is to never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time, and to mulch the clippings for best results.
The length of your grass blades can be a personal preference, but we recommend a cutting height of 2.5”-3”. It is also a good practice to leave the grass at higher level during the hottest months. This will allow the blades to maintain more moisture and stay healthy. Lastly, try to avoid mowing the same path each time. Alternating the direction of cut will help prevent mower track compaction and will promote upright shoot growth.
